Thankful Thursday: Liberty Tax

Each week, City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley will thank a person or organization for inspiring us in our service. This week, Training and LACY Project Leader Krista Corwin thanks Liberty Tax Service for offering free filing services for our corps members.

It’s spring time in the United States and you know what that means – it’s tax season. Many corps members at City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley are filing their own taxes for the first time this year, and even more have moved to California from a new state. Add in students loans, and this tax season could get pretty sticky for many of these full-time volunteers.

Enter Liberty Tax.  When I called our local Liberty chain to ask for a 1040EZ training, they more than obliged, offering free tax preparation services for as many corps members as we could schedule.

Grateful for our work in the community, franchise owner Naz Ghadialy was more than accommodating to our needs. Corps members came back from their appointments smiling ear-to-ear, reporting that a weight had been lifted from their shoulders.

Thanks for all the help, Liberty! We hope to see you next season!

  1. It was truly our pleasure to help out 25 or so corps members who decided to give us a try. At Liberty Tax Service, we believe in being actively involved in the community. These free returns are our way of serving those who serve the community.

  2. Its reviews and comments like Krista’s that make it all more worth while. These days, anytime we can bring a smile to a person’s face, thats reward enough for me. I hope our service made life a little easier for your volunteers. Keep up the good work !
