Thankful Thursday: YMCA of Silicon Valley

Each week, City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley will thank a person or organization for inspiring us in our service. This week, Senior Corps Member Megan Baker thanks the YMCA of Silicon Valley for investing in the health and well-being of the City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley corps and staff.

As a corps member, I found it extremely difficult to find the time and energy to focus on my health.

After a long day of service, the last thing I wanted to do was hop on a treadmill for an hour. Not only that, but the cost of a gym membership wasn’t exactly feasible for me while I was living on a stipend.

Thanks to the YMCA of Silicon Valley, that last concern wasn’t much of a problem anymore.

The YMCA of Silicon Valley offers City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley corps and staff a membership at a low cost. For only $15 a month (with no start-up fee), we have access to five different locations in Silicon Valley. We can use the equipment, swim in the pool, play a game of pick-up basketball and join a Zumba class; which has become a corps favorite.

But we aren’t the only ones receiving a break from the YMCA. They offer financial assistance to Silicon Valley families who would otherwise not be able to afford access to these vital services. It is their goal that no one should be turned away from the YMCA due to affordability.

Thank you YMCA of Silicon Valley for truly investing in the health of the community!

Megan Baker, Recruitment Project Leader & Social Media Manager CYSJ
