City Year San José Gets in the Game

For the first time in Silicon Valley sports history, all of the major sports teams were brought together by the San José Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the impact that professional sports has had on the San José community.

But it wasn’t just about revenue dollars being brought to the area. It was about how these teams are actively engaging with the community.

The San Francisco 49ers, Oakland A’s, San José Earthquakes, FC Gold Pride and the San José Sharks all presented what their team does not only on the field, but off the field as well.

It was truly inspiring to hear that all of the teams have made a commitment to making San José a better place. Professional athletes take the time to do anything from visiting sick patients in hospitals to putting on sports camps as a way to promote healthy lifestyles for youth to making the holidays a lot more special for needy families in the valley.

And of course, it was a lot of fun for the senior corps and staff members who were able to attend.
